I bet you’re wondering where Sondeka disappeared to after Sondeka Festival 2015. Well… we didn’t exactly disappear. We started the
Sondeka Awards, which have celebrated over 150 creatives and received more than 40,000 votes over the years. Frame by Frame Festival was born. Kalabars happened. Creatives Garage kept creating, experimenting, building things and occasionally asking ourselves, “But what if we tried this?”

We even took Sondeka online, streaming over 700 minutes of creative content. And because apparently a normal book wasn't complicated enough, we created a 400-page augmented reality festival-in-a-book, packed with art, stories and the work of hundreds of creatives.

Since Sondeka first came to life in 2013, the festival has brought together performers, artists, makers, innovators, designers,
technologists and beautifully strange creative humans from Kenya and beyond. We've showcased thousands of performers, exhibited more than 300 innovators and creative enterprises, and brought together over 100 creative innovators who created more than 50 works using everything from recycled materials and fabric to paint and technology.

So, why bring Sondeka Festival back now?
TBH…
We love a good party.
And after years of saying, “We really need to bring Sondeka back,” we finally looked around at the taxes, the economy, the general character development of simply existing in Kenya and thought:
Surely, we deserve a good party.
So, yeah! that’s why here we are.

This comeback has been made possible by partners who believed that bringing creatives together again was worth doing: British Council, The Junction Mall, Brand Africa Ltd, BAKE, NAICCON and B-Side.
